Hi, I'm Steve

Throughout my career I've been fortunate to work in a variety of roles in different industries. The combination of experience along with my education in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science allows me to operate at the intersection of 3D Design, Manufacturing, Software, and AI.
I believe AI has the potential to greatly improve our lives and I am driven by the desire to create products and tools that augment human creativity and productivity - with a specific emphasis on geometric applications.
I am currently based in Hoboken, NJ (NYC Metro) and I am always looking to connect with people who share my passion for creating and trying to improve the lives of those around us. If you'd like to connect, please reach out!
Experience
2022 - 2024
Founding Engineer
Wayland Systems
|
ERP for the CNC Industry
Full stack role on a small team handling everything from discovery through deployment. Developed multiple features integrating AI and created a 3D CAD file viewer converting STEP files to browser-friendly Three.js meshes.
2021 - 2022
R&D Engineer
Link3D (Materialise)
|
ERP for Enterprise 3D Printing
Quickly built PoC applications integrating new AI and CG technologies for Additive Manufacturing workflows. Operated as the point person for the Link3D-Materialise app integration and also led the hiring process for junior engineers and interns.
2018 - 2020
Operations Director
Additive Rocket Corporation
|
Metal 3D Printing for Aerospace
Built out the business processes and managed day-to-day operations for the new general prototyping business unit, from sales to delivery. Developed internal tools to speed up quoting and design processes by factors of 100 to 1000x.
2016 - 2018
Operations Director
|
Operations Manager
Approved Networks (Legrand)
|
Network Hardware
Oversaw fulfillment operations and managed a team of 10+ employees. Led continuous improvement efforts and quality initiatives that yielded an 80% reduction in errors during a period of 50% YoY growth.
Education
2023
MS Computer Science
UC San Diego
|
AI Concentration
|
3.63 GPA
Curriculum covered various topics in algorithms, machine learning, computer vision, and geometric deep learning. Served as the TA for undergraduate intro computer vision and undergraduate mechanical engineering senior design. Master's thesis involved the creation of the world's first geometry-agnostic neural fluid simulation framework built on top of the Ansys simulation suite.
2016
BS Mechanical Engineering
UC San Diego
|
Magna Cum Laude
|
3.87 GPA
Outside of the curriculum, was involved with projects and organizations involving product development, entrepreneurship, and additive manufacturing. These include the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS),the Gordon Engineering Leadership Program, and founding the Triton 3D Printing Club. The senior design project involved the design and creation of an underwater autonomous vehicle.
Projects

Master's Thesis
A Framework For Generalized Steady State Neural Fluid Simulations
Computation fluid simulations are difficult. Deep learning offers a powerful abstraction that can simplify and expedite fluid simulations, making them more accessible.

CAD File Feature Detection
Demo App for ML Inference on BREP Geometry
3D Applications involving BREP data require different geometry representations for the UI and ML model. This project was an exercise in manipulating geometry data, and also provided a means to learn new frameworks and setup infra beyond the vanilla use cases.
